ABOUT TKO HAWAII
TKO Hawaii was established in 2006 by Sensei Aaron Oandasan. We are the Hawaii branch of Traditional Karate-Do Organization (TKO) under head instructor Sensei Jo Mirza based in Chicago, IL, and members of AAU/USA Karate. TKO Hawaii specializes in the traditional Shotokan style of karate. Shotokan training is usually divided into three parts: Kihon (basics), Kata (forms or patterns of moves), and Kumite (sparring). Techniques in kihon and kata are characterized by deep, long stances that provide stability, enable powerful movements, and strengthen the legs. At TKO Hawaii, students learn all of these and also Bunkai (self defense applications) as they advance in their training. Along with learning karate, students also develop good moral character, respect for themselves and others through the dojo kun (dojo precepts).
